According to the 2024 report by National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), there are 4,571 federally insured credit unions in the U.S. Let's celebrate that! Save the date for July 26th, 2024, when the credit union movement will come together and discuss why we love our credit unions!
Brief History of #ILOVEMYCREDITUNION
#ILoveMyCreditUnion campaign has been initiated by Credit Union League (ICUL). It’s an annual, one-day event that encourages credit union members to share positive stories on social media. This sharing under a common hashtag is known as a "social media blitz.”
Credit unions are not-for-profit organizations that are sustained by money from their members. The members buy shares in the cooperative to be able to provide loans or other services to each other. Like any other organization, credit unions grow if more people get inspired and join the mission.
Since the costs of awareness campaigns are high and credit unions usually tend to be small in size, days like July 26th, 2024, are important ways to raise awareness.
Key Steps to Participate
There are no rules for participation, as we love to encourage creativity. If you’re our loyal member or customer and want to share your positive experiences with us, you’re welcome to share them under the hashtag #ILOVEMYCREDITUNION. Your feedback can be in the form of photos, videos, stories, or even songs. The sky is your limit!
The main purpose of this day is to boost awareness about all the amazing things that credit unions are doing to make lives easier.
Why Do We Love Credit Unions?
Since credit unions are exempt from corporate tax, we are able to provide higher interest rates on deposits as well as charge lower fees on various services ranging from opening a checking account to performing a cash withdrawal from an ATM. As credit unions, we are committed to strengthening communities by facilitating financial inclusion.
Additionally, federally insured credit unions enjoy the protection of the National Credit Union Administration, and any money stored with a credit union is always safe. Our clients never worry about losing their savings.
Membership in a credit union is inclusive, and anyone who lives or works in Rock Island and Henry counties in Illinois can join Service Plus Credit Union.
As a full-service credit union, we help our clients with all their financial needs. You can check us out online and contact us with any questions you may have.
